波士頓樂團(Boston)的吉他手湯姆．史羅斯(Tom Schloz)從麻省理工學院機械系(MIT)畢業後，在拍立得公司(Polaroid Corp.) 當工程師。但是他的內心，卻只對音樂有興趣。所以上班對他而言就成了苦差事。後來他離開公司，成立了Boston這個樂團。
Boston的黃金時期，是在1970－'80年這段時期。他們製作出多首暢銷曲。1980年後，Boston和CBS唱片公司發生糾紛，官司纏訟7年後，Boston勝訴獲得賠償。
而Tom Scholz本人也多才多藝，除了經營樂團之外，他在1987年時，創立自己的公益事業(DTS Charitable Foundation)，多年來致力於保護動物權益。
